One of HUMAN’s biggest missions is to fight obesity in America. Getting healthy vending machines in schools would encourage students to making better eating decisions, and as an added bonus, HUMAN actually donates 10% of profits to organizations that fight obesity and malnutrition!
Obviously obesity in America is a hot issue, but to be honest, I never gave it much thought. I decided to do a little research to find out how important weight really is, and this is what I found! (This website was a big help!)
Prevalence
In the past few decades, obesity has been on the rise in America. In 1970, only 5% of Americans were obese. A study that was released last week estimates that over 25% of the population are obese in 38 of our nation’s states! That is a huge increase. Another study claims that 68% of American adults and 32% of children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Clearly, obesity is a prevalent issue.
Dangers
Obesity has been linked to the following diseases (and undesirable conditions:
Childhood Obesity
In children, obesity may cause liver, lung, heart, and musculoskeletal complications, as well as psychological problems. And of course, kids with bad eating habits are much more likely to grow up to be adults with bad eating habits.
Now that you know a little bit more about the dangers of being overweight, don’t you want to help fight it too?
The best recommendation I found to prevent childhood obesity is to change the food that is most available to them. Kids will eat whatever’s around, so let’s make healthy food convenient and accessible! Putting HUMAN’s healthy vending machines in schools can do just that. Since schools can host the vending machines for FREE, I can’t imagine why any school would not want HUMAN’s healthy vending machines!
